Wed December 8th

Dear Lord God, awaken us, that we may be ready when your dear Son comes, that we may receive him with joy and serve you with pure hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

O Lord our God, make us watchful and cheerful as we await the coming of your Son, Christ our Lord, that when he comes and knocks, he will find us not sleeping in sins but awake and rejoicing in his praises;
We pray in his Holy Name,

Amen.πŸ™πŸ»

Tue December 7th

Loving God,
We thank you for the many daily signs of your faithfulness and love.
Thank you for the promise and the sign of 'Immanuel' – God with us – in the person of Jesus Christ.
In this Christmas season of many signs – trees, lights, decorations - we thank you for the Primary 1 school children in the Braes who are learning and preparing for their nativity play.
Bless and encourage teachers, parents and carers as they support them in this – may they too come to experience God with them – at Christmas and every day.
We pray for successful performances and recordings of the nativity plays to be sent out by video to families because parents can’t yet go into the school building.
May the wonder of God becoming a human, vulnerable, and dependent baby fill all our hearts and minds with joy.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen

Mon December 6th

His name is Almighty
and he is the Lord.
His name is Creator
and he makes all things new.
His name is Sustainer
and he holds us in the palm of his hand.
His name is Saviour
and he died in our place.
His name is Forgiveness
and he can be trusted to heal and to bless.
His name is Holy
and he is the one that we have come to worship.
His name means
he is worthy to receive all we have and all we are
Amen

Sun December 5th

As I listened to the news about changes to travel arrangements in light of the new Covid strain, I realised that many people may have to change their plans and might not be able to be with family and friends for Christmas. This made me think about the journey that Joseph and Mary had to make to fulfil God’s promise. While we travel through Advent, we have the certainty that Jesus will arrive, so let us prepare ourselves for that special day.

Come, Emmanuel!

Tue November 30th

Prayer for those in Need – based on Mary’s β€˜Magnificat’ (Luke 1:46-55)
O how our souls praise the Lord.
How our spirit rejoices in God our Saviour!
For he takes notice of the lowly and the needy.
The Powerful and Holy One has done great things for us.
He shows mercy from generation to generation
to all who fear him.
His mighty arm has done tremendous things!
He scatters people who are proud
and those who think highly of themselves.
He has brought down princes from their thrones
and exalted the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away with empty hands.
Lord in this Advent season, in your love and grace,
meet the needs of the forgotten, overlooked, and misunderstood;
Rescue the orphaned, abandoned, and destitute.
Provide food, clothing, and shelter to the least, the last and the lost in the Braes.
In the name of Jesus - who for love’s sake, became poor.
Amen

Mon November 29th

Father God,
We started the Advent season yesterday and as the first candle was lit we remembered that there is hope through Your Son Jesus. We thank You that we have this hope to cling onto and anchoring our souls. We pray that our friends and neighbours in the Braes area would see hope in Jesus and would experience this in their own lives.
As we prepare our hearts for Christmas may we look back at Your Son first coming, the Word becoming flesh and remember everything what has been made possible through Jesus coming down and living fully God and fully human. May we also during this season never forget to look ahead and anticipate your second coming with more gladness, joy and expectation.

In Jesus' Name
Amen

Sun November 28th

As we enter the season of Advent, let us each make sure that we have room for Jesus in our hearts and homes. Let us remember those for whom Christmas will be challenging because of health concerns or the loss of loved ones over the past year or beyond. We know that we have a God who will be with each person at their point of need and I pray that hearts and minds will be open to let Him in.
