The beautiful music I share with you today is based on this hymn by George Matheson.

I pray that as we listen, we hold on to the love of our God who is there for us in whatever circumstances we find ourselves today.

May our loving Father’s blessing be on us all.

Oh love that will not let me go
I rest my weary soul in thee
I give thee back the life I owe
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.

Oh light that followest all my way
I yield my flickering torch to thee
My heart restores its borrowed ray
That in thy sunshine's blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.

Oh joy that seekest me through pain
I cannot close my heart to thee
I trace the rainbow through the rain
And feel the promise is not vain
That morn shall tearless be.

Oh cross that liftest up my head
I dare not ask to fly from thee
I lay in dust's life's glory dead
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.

Lord,
We pray for the families in the Braes who are going through hardship due to the rise in the cost of living, higher energy bills and static wages. We pray for the families in the Braes who are suffering from Covid-19 and have lost loved ones. Lord, we give thanks for the leadership of our churches and support from our community. Lord, we give thanks that we can come together free from persecution and in relative immunity. We pray, we believe, he listens.

Prayer based on Jesus’ healing of the Royal Official’s son (John 4:43-54)
Loving God and Father,
We thank you for children in the Braes – each life is precious to you. Thank you for loving and devoted parents and family members who nurture and care for them.
We bring to you families where children are sick. Help them to seek you with the faith and fervour of the royal official at Capernaum.
We confess that the comforts of this world often insulate us from the reality of how much we need you. Help us to see that the hard mercies of adversity come not to harm us but to get our attention and remind us that this world and its pain is not our final home.
Lord, we pray for those who have a loved one who is sick or dying. We pray that you would bring clarity to their circumstances, comfort to their heavy hearts. Hold them in your mighty arms.
We especially remember Archie Battersbee’s mum and dad. In their fight for their son, give them daily strength and grace. May they, and all who have unwell children, know the peace of God that passes all understanding, and the love of Jesus that knows no ending.
Amen

As I'm sure you're all aware, the Commonwealth Games kicked off in Birmingham last week. The Bible describes the Christian life as a race marked out for us. Brightons Church used to do summer holiday clubs. I remember one year we did an Olympics theme and the memory "verse" (it was technically a combination of two verses) was 'I'm gonna run towards the goal, in order to win the prize, the prize that the Lord will give me on that day' (Philippians 3:14, 2 Timothy 4:8).
Father God,
We come before you in prayer and ask for your help as we all live the Christian life with the aim of knowing you more and with spending eternity with you in heaven as our goal. We thank you for the cloud of witnesses that are looking down on us and for those that have run the race before us and the example they gave us. Help us, Lord, to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, Your Son, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, and not to be distracted with everything that's going on in this world. Help us also to keep on running, especially in the times where we want to give up and don't desire to persevere. Help us to be a good witness and example to those around us and the generations after us. May we live godly fruitful lives so that when we do reach heaven, you will say 'well done you faithful servant'.
Amen

Today I pray for those in authority in my country.

In the midst of the clamour of voices and competing agendas, in situations where it’s hard to know whether people are telling the truth or not, would You help them to listen?

To not be reactive, but to create space for wise decisions. I pray for my national leaders and their team right now.

Loving Father,
We pray for our churches in the Braes over this summer period.
As many regular attendees go away on holiday and numbers are down, we pray for encouragement for church leaders as they continue faithfully to shepherd the flock.
We pray for special summer events at churches, such as children’s holiday clubs, church picnics and informal get-togethers. May these be effective in reaching others and blessing church members.
And we pray for those who are on holiday. May they be refreshed by their time away and come back more eager to serve you.
We pray all these things, Lord, that your name will be glorified and your kingdom extended right here in the Braes.
Amen

What a privilege we have in being able to talk with God intimately. This is prayer!
Father God, we thank you for your son, Jesus, who by his death and resurrection, opened a new and living way to enter your presence. We can talk to you from our heart whenever and wherever we are and in all circumstances. No one else knows our thoughts and hopes and struggles except you. We praise you that although you are so powerful that you hold all creation in your hand, you love us so much and long to hear us call out to you.
We pray for all who live in the Braes are who are celebrating special events, those who are anxious about rising costs of living, those who are seeking employment, those who have ill health and those who are lonely. Lord we pray that each and every one tries praying, tries talking to you about every aspect of their lives including their worries and hopes for we know that you are a loving God who never turns a deaf ear to those who earnestly call out to you.
Hear our prayer, Amen

Mon July 25th

Was reading one of the days from an old edition of Every Day with Jesus (by Selwyn Hughes, not the new writer!) this morning. It talked about prayer and it's purposes. I liked the following quote, thought it was an interesting image

"When someone in a small boat throws out a boat-hook to grab the shore, does that person pull the shore to the boat or the boat to the shore? Prayer does not pull God to us but us to God."

πŸ™Heavenly Father, our Abba Almighty,

We thank You that through Your amazing grace we can come near to You and talk to You in prayer. We lay our concerns and the things in our hearts at your feet and enjoy the time in Your presence.

Prayer is not to bend God's will to ours but to bring our will in line with His. We confess of the times where we tried to get what we want and become annoyed, angry or despondent when You know what we want isn't the best for us and therefore haven't let things go our way. We pray that You will reveal more and more of Your will and we pray Your will be done in our lives.

We pray that those around us in the Braes will come to know that they can come to You in prayer, draw near to You and lay their petitions at Your feet. We pray that Your will be done in the lives of everyone in this area of Falkirk.

In the Name of Your precious Son, Jesus
