As the Brightons main page highlights, today is the SU Scotland Day of Prayer. Their downloadable resource encourages us to pray various prayers of Scripture, and I found this one very helpful (and it's one of my favourites!):

"I pray that Christ will live in your hearts because of your faith. I pray that your life will be strong in love and be built on love. And I pray that you and all God’s holy people will have the power to understand the greatness of Christ’s love. I pray that you can understand how wide and how long and how high and how deep that love is. Christ’s love is greater than any person can ever know. But I pray that you will be able to know that love. Then you can be filled with the fullness of God." Ephesians 3:17-19, ICB

Join me in praying this for the Braes area, that in churches, schools, groups, via social media and in our daily relationships, this prayer might become a reality here.

Wed January 20th

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come… will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ (Romans 8:38-39)

God of heaven and earth,
in these times of isolation,
apart from loved ones
distant from friends
away from neighbours
thank you that there is nothing
in all of creation,
not even coronavirus,
that is able to separate us from your love.

And may your love that never fails
continue to be shared
through the kindness of strangers
looking out for each other,
for neighbours near and far
all recognising our shared vulnerability,
each of us grateful for every breath,
and willing everyone to know the gift
of a full and healthy life.
Keep us all in your care.
Amen.🙏🏻

Mon January 18th

As we go about our day, let us turn again to Jesus in prayer

Jesus, our Saviour and Friend,

We look to You to see the Father. We know the Father is loving, because we see how You loved people. We know the Father is powerful, because we see Your awesome power in creating the universe and in transforming individuals. We know the Father is kind and gentle, because You are patient with us and forgiving towards us.

Amen

Tue January 19th

Father,
We want to bring before you this morning all our friends and neighbours in the Braes area who are teachers.
We recognise the huge strain they are under as they prepare online lessons, teach pupils online and even go into schools to teach the children of key workers and vulnerable children. Despite safety measures, they are sometimes risking their own health.
So, Lord, we humbly ask you protect them when they are in school, strengthen them when they are working from home and encourage them to persevere as they serve our children. Please honour their good work.
We remember, Lord Jesus, that when you were on the earth, someone called you “Good Teacher” and we thank you that still day by day you teach us your way. We know you consider this calling of people to teach children to be a noble profession and so we ask you to bless the teachers of the Braes.
Amen

No matter what happens in life, it could always be worse. But it’s easy to think we are the only ones struggling when life takes a sudden unexpected downturn. In order to not sink into self pity let us pray and keep our perspective:

Lord, thank You that in spite of what has come my way, I am still breathing.
Thank You that I am not abandoned or alone, but am able to call upon You for help at any time.
Thank You that I am not without hope, because I have a Saviour, Redeemer and Rescuer.
Amen 🙏🏻

Tue January 12th

When I turned over my perpetual calendar this morning, this was my message for the day. It made me feel good to think of the Lord POURING blessings on me at a time of worry and anxiety over all that is happening in our family and in our nation. I hope you do not mind my sharing it with you.

“May the Lord pour out
His blessings upon you——
Blessings of love and blessings of kindness;
Blessings of joy and blessings of laughter;
Blessings of peace and blessings of good
things to come.”

May you all feel the Lord’s blessings on you today.

Tue January 12th

**A prayer based on ‘A Nurses Prayer’ (author unknown)**

Loving God and Father,

Help each nurse, doctor, and carer be the best you have made them, gifted them, and they have been trained to be.

Bless them with the words to impart knowledge with gentleness, patience, and a kind bedside manner.

Give them the vision to see those who are struggling with their illness, and the ability to help them understand it.

Show them how to provide expert care, while making their patients comfortable.

Help them to be a source of strength for their patients and their families.

Help them to be a support to their colleagues in their team.

May they be a true sign of Your love to every person under their care.

Lord, fill them with the energy they need for each day regardless of how they feel.

At the end of their shift, help them to process the stress and emotional pain of the day - to cry out to you, leaving their burdens with you.

When in need, may they be supported by those who will listen with empathy.

Bless and protect their family - as they encourage and support them in their role.

At the end of the day, give them peace of heart and mind, and restful sleep.

In Jesus' name,

Amen
