Who’s Who
Minister
Rev Murdo Macdonald Campbell was born in the Isle of Lewis, worked for the first 15 years of his working life in the family Business. He was educated in Bayble School and the Nicolson Institute and regularly attended the local Sunday School at Garrabost Church of Scotland.
In his young adult life Murdo lost sight of much of that early Christian instruction but a time came when he felt challenged to consider his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. His life was completely turned around in 1982 when he truly experienced the life changing power of the gospel of the lord Jesus Christ. Murdo was ordained an Elder in St Columba Old Parish Church Stornoway and soon began to receive invitations to preach in local churches. Murdo was accepted as a candidate for full time ministry in the Church of Scotland in 1990 and began his studies at Aberdeen University in the same year. Murdo Graduated in 1994 with a Batchelor of Divinity degree with 2/1 Honours in Reformed Theology and Systematic Theology. This was followed by a post graduate year which culminated in a Diploma in Ministry at 2/1 level in New Testament, Practical Theology, Systematic Theology and Contemporary Philosophy.
Murdo served as a probationer at Martins Memorial Church Stornoway before being ordained and inducted into the Charge at Carloway in 1997. During his time in Carloway Murdo was involved in chaplaincy in three schools, became moderator of Presbytery and served on the National Mission Committee. He was chairperson of Carloway School Board and was the founding chairperson of Carloway Youth Initiative. The Initiative employed a full time youth worker who worked in the schools and churches of the parish, having contact with over one hundred children and teen agers every week, some of those young people going on to make a commitment of faith to the Lord Jesus Christ. Murdo believes, if we are faithful in serving God, doing what we can, God will honour our efforts and He will give the growth and increase we pray for.
Murdo is married to Lorraine and has two sons, Stuart and Lewis
Murdo shares the ministry work at Brightons with a dedicated and gifted ministry team.
